Delhi sero-survey results: Over 23% residents have coronavirus ...

Sero survey is the process of collecting blood serum from individuals to inspect the presence of coronavirus at the district level.

The survey tells the percentage of the city’s population who had developed antibodies against coronavirus. The survey is conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in collaboration with the State Health Departments.

The first serosurvey in India took place in Pune, the surveillance had 1,664 respondents from the city’s 35 lakh residents. At least 51.5 percent of residents from five highly-affected areas in Pune have seroprevalence of antibodies against the Sars-Cov-2 virus which causes the Covid-19 infection, according to the data from the first serosurvey, released by the Hindustan Times, Pune.

In the second one of the serological surveys in the national capital, Delhi has found COVID-19 antibodies among 28.35 percent of people who were part of the sample survey, according to a report by The Indian Express. Another round was conducted between August 1-7, results are expected this week, Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Tuesday.

The city with a larger population requires more of sero testing to check for community transmission in part of the country. Since it requires a good cost and human resources, it is not possible to conduct these on a larger scale. Standard operating procedures, training, quality control, and oversight are essential in performing these surveys.

Many states in India, like Haryana, are planning to conduct these surveys to estimate the population of infected people so that policies for improving the same can be adopted.

The time is hard but together if we all cooperate and understand the situation we can fight this and we shall prevail against it!
