Crisis of Migrant Labourers

“Crisis and deadlocks when they occur have at least this advantage, that they force us to think.”
Working as a regular wage earner in a democratic country like India has always been difficult. It is like working more for the family than for our self and working for money than for satisfaction. But what happens to their life when a pandemic hits the whole country and when they are told to stay home because our government has declared a nationwide lockdown. Things just turn upside down for them. We who belong to the so-called sophisticated society, we enjoy our lives sitting at home busy making Dalgona coffee and doing social media challenges, where else migrant workers wish to reach out for home soon and meet their family. The migrant workers who leave their home in the hope to find a job in big cities find it hard to live during the pandemic. They are starved to death, their only source of income has been closed, and what is left is the uncertainty of their future. Even though the Supreme Court has announced for free relief and transport for the labourers, our State Government fails to do their duty. They are again left with no food, no shelters and due to these shortages, they have given up their lives.
Increasing death among the labourers is affecting the country. As many belonged to the lower classes they are dismissed as always. Many of them have attempted to reach home by walking through roads. The working classes are the essence of our country. Let this crisis be a time when we look onto the lives of these people who with their limited dreams wish to go back home. Let us unite as one and make the future a more prosperous one for everybody.
