It helps to build a society where equitable development is possible. One such famous sport that had emerged in the Olympics is weight lifting. The popularity it had gained was not easy. This sport had made many hidden talents to come forward especially from backward regions. Many contributions are still to be made, but the position it had acquired lately is remarkable.

Football is an outdoor game played by players of two teams. Both football teams have 11–11 players each, which means that there are a total of 22 players in a football match. The team with the most goals is the winner and the team with the least goals loses. In this game, a ball is played by kicking it with the foot. The game is also called Soccer in some countries. There are many forms of football; such as - Football Association (UK), Gridiron Football, American Football or Canadian Football (in the US and Canada), Australian Rule Football or Rugby League (Australia), Gallic Football (Ireland), Rugby Football (New Zealand), etcetera. Various forms of football are known as football codes.


Football is the most famous sport in the world even in this modern era. It is a very thrilling and challenging game that is usually played by two teams for the enjoyment and entertainment of the youth. Originally, it was played by villagers (called rugby in Italy).


Origin of Football


According to some experts, it is said that it originated in China. It is played by two teams (with 11–11 players in both teams), aiming to score the maximum goals against each other. The international competition of this game is of 90 minutes, which is divided into two parts of 45 minutes each. Players also take some time off between the two intervals of the game, which cannot be more than 15 minutes. The game is assisted by a referee and two linemen (in organizing the game).

Football is good physical exercise. It provides various benefits for children and youth as well as people of other age groups. It is usually played for the benefit of students in schools and colleges. It helps in improving the skill, concentration level, and memory power of the students. It is a sport that makes a person physically, mentally, and socially healthy, and well. It is a great source of entertainment, which refreshes the body and mind. It helps a person to face common problems of daily life.

History of Football


Historically, the football game is 700–800 years old. It was brought to Britain by the Romans. It was started in England in 1863. The Football Association was formed in England to control the sport. Earlier, people commonly played it by kicking the ball with the foot, which later became a very interesting game. Gradually, the game gained more popularity and, with the rules, began to be played in a rectangular field marked by the boundary line and central lines. It is not very expensive and is also referred to as "soccer" by some countries. Originally the rules of this game were governed by the Football Association in a systematic code. England hosts the FIFA World Cup every four years.


Rules for Playing Football


The rules of playing football are officially called the rules of the game. There are about 7 basic rules of playing this game under two teams.


1. It is played in a rectangular field with two long lines (tangent lines) and two short sides (round lines). It is played in lines dividing the field into two equal parts.

2. Football size 68-70 cm. Should be circular with (made of leather).

3. There are 11–11 players in both teams. If a team has less than 7 players then it cannot start this game.

4. There should be one referee and two assistant referees to ensure the rules of the game.

5. The duration of the game is 90 minutes, with two half-lengths of 45 minutes each. The median may not exceed 15 minutes.

6. There is a ball at all times during the game, however, it is outside the game only when the team players score the goal or the referee stops the game.

7. A goal kick is made to restart the game after scoring a goal.


Football is one of the most popular sports all over the world. It is a cheap game played in almost all countries with great interest. Players who practice it regularly benefit in many ways. It is good for both physical and mental health.
