It is rightly said, " You educate man, you educate a man ; You educate a woman; you educate a generation”-
Why is Education so much emphasised upon?
Education has uplifted the socially downtrodden which wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. Education opens one to a world of new ideas and opportunities. Educating more percentage of the female population is an issue which concerns many parts of the world. We have always seen that, given the opportunity, females have always have proven their calibre but still struggle at times for the stature their male counterparts enjoy.
There are many women who under certain unfavourable
circumstances leave their education midway but fail to resume it.
Here is a heart-touching story of a woman who
resumed her education at the age of 90 when most people give up
on improving in their lives. She is an inspiration to all such women who have
been hesitating to do so and give up due to responsibilities of their family. Priscilla Sitienei as a
young girl was deprived of the opportunity to read and write. However, what she
could not do then, couldn’t defeat her aspirations and she persevered, turning
her dreams into a reality.
For the past 5 years, Priscilla has been attending
“Leaders Vision Preparatory School” in Kenya where she lives. Interestingly,
she attends this school with her great-grandchildren. She has big
goals and wants to be able to read the Bible. She goes to school like all other
children in uniform and attends Maths, Singing, Drama, English and Physical
Education classes. She lives in the school dormitory with her great-grandchild.
She is not just an inspiration to all children, but to
all those who have kids and believe it is too late for them to learn something
at school or try something new. When asked about inspiring other people, she
says, " They tell me they
are too old. I tell them, Well I am at school and so should you!”
