ZOOM APP: A VIDEOCONFERENCING TREND
Officials in the Home Ministry told IANS that the app has some specific weaknesses so it is necessary to avoid its use for official purposes as it can encrypt meeting data. A report had recently claimed that Zoom is also prone to hacking. Video conferencing app Zoom has been in the middle of a privacy storm in the past couple of weeks. Now, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an advisory cautioning individual on the safe usage of the app. According to the advisory, MHA has deemed Zoom as an unsafe platform and it is asking individuals using the video conferencing app to adhere to certain security settings in a bid to safeguard their meetings from malicious attackers.
The government of India previously asked every citizen of the country to stop using the Zoom video conference platform as it breaches privacy. The Supreme Court has now sought a response from the Centre on a plea which has sought a ban on the use of video communications app Zoom for official as well as personal purposes until appropriate legislation is put in place.
