Ignorance does no good, In India, Sex Education stops the moment when the teacher skips " The Reproductive System" chapter in class 10th. It's important to teach about sex in schools to avoid rapes in future. Sex education should be made compulsory since junior classes, for a more aware and sensitive generation. There's nothing wrong in teaching kids about sex, it is the source of life itself, children and adolescents need to learn about sex to protect them for society, peers and media. In this modern era in which rates of pregnancy among teenagers and sexually transmitted diseases are increasing on an alarming rate there's need to teach children more about sex education rather than a one-time chat about the birds and the bees.

Many parents and teachers often hesitate about the broaching the topic of sex with their children and students. Some parents are even aware of the fact that how important it is to give their children education about sex yet they stay silent and assume that their children will adopt the essential knowledge from school and the media. Some teachers and parents believe that telling children about sex will encourage sexual experimentation.

But what the society needs to understand is, that as sex education is the study of the characteristics of being a male and female. Such characteristics make up a person's sexuality. Sexuality is an essential aspect of the life of a human being and it is very important for every child to know about it. It teaches an individual about self-acceptance and skills of interpersonal relationship. It also helps an individual to cultivate a sense of responsibility towards others as well as oneself.

We make many units of maths compulsory, question yourself one thing? When was the last time you used algebra or trigonometry? Although if you're an engineer or scientist then it comes to use regularly otherwise it rarely comes to use after class 12th, But! it does come to use.  Imagine if you didn't get knowledge about the same in your school? No matter how terrible trigonometry was, yet it's important. Even though you don't use it every day but it's still useful at times. Same is the case with sex education. Even if you don't want to be sexually active, that doesn't mean that you don't need to learn about sex and contraceptives. Access to medically accurate sex education is a human right. And no child should be prohibited from getting get sex education because their parents think it's inappropriate.

Although, there are end number of reasons to, why sex education should be taught in school yet out of all the most important being that a large section of teens are sexually active. According to the Youth Risk Behavioural Surveillance Survey, 41% of high school students had had sex at least once. Not only this but also 11.5% of teens had four or more sexual partners, 57% of sexually active students had used condoms and 18% had used birth control pills.

These problems associated with youngsters can only be solved if the education system and parents believe that sex education doesn't encourage kids to have sex. Rather comprehensive programs teach students that abstinence is the only surefire way to prevent pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
