Suicide is among the top three causes of death among youth in the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), every year, almost one million people die from suicide and 20 times more people try to attempt suicide; a global rate of mortality being 16 per 100,000, or one death every 40 seconds and one attempt every 3 seconds, on average is the data. In 1998, Suicide worldwide was estimated to represent 1.8% of the total global burden of disease, in 2020, this figure is projected to be 2.4% in countries.

There are so many reasons for suicide such as mental illness, traumatic stress, substance use and impulsivity, fear of loss, hopelessness, chronic pain and terminal illnesses, the belief that your life is a burden to other people, self -isolation from society, and accidental suicide, being some of them. The come out phenomenon of “cyber-suicide” in the internet era is a further cause for concern of suicide.

One of the main reasons for the increasing rate of suicide is that more people are seeking mental health treatment, but there aren’t enough psychiatrists to meet the increasing demand for this disease. According to the Merritt Hawking report in 2017, "The shortage of psychiatrists is an escalating crisis."

The United States is suffering from an increasing shortage of psychiatrists and other mental health providers. And the shortage is particularly found in rural areas, many urban neighborhoods, and community mental health centers that often treat the most severe mental illnesses.

To overcome this problem new models of mental healthcare started such as Telepsychiatry - including videoconferencing for patient evaluation, medication management, and therapy - which is the one effective way to deliver more care to the remote area.
