"I cried when I was born, will I cry when I am about to die too?", these are the lines which come from the heart of every woman living in Turkey. No women want to die with her legs open. Gender equality and women’s rights are fundamental to securing a better future for all. In an era, in which every person is aware of women rights and an urge to develop women, seeing the condition of Women in Turkey is miserable.
The recent killing of 27-year-old student Pinar Gültekin at the hands of her former boyfriend, however, sent shock waves through the country. This is just a single case heard, there is end no. Of cases which are even more pathetic than this and most disheartening part is most of the cases doesn't even come out and the victim never gets justice.
A black-white challenged was also started by women on Instagram to draw the attention of the world towards femicide going on in Turkey. Millions of women, including Hollywood celebrities like Jessica Biel and Demi Moore, have joined the campaign and shared their own photos on Instagram using the #ChallengeAccepted and #BlackAndWhiteChallenge hashtags.
It's not clear if the campaign actually started in Turkey, but it gained prominence after Turkish social media users joined a "women supporting women" campaign to call for solidarity over femicide and violence against women in the country, where hundreds are killed every year. Turkish women thanked the power of social media after a "black and white selfie" as due to that femicide echoed globally. In light of several domestic violence-related murders, female activists are rallying together to demand the government put legislation in place to protect women. But, as we all know "Unity is Strength", their voices could be heard only if we all raise voice for them. Let's join hands together! By saving women contribute your part towards the development of the World as women play the most important role in the development of any nation.
No women! No World!
